Suffolk County United Veterans Project Inc. operates an emergency shelter and several units of scattered site housing.
1) Shelter/Transitional Housing: The veteran is given the opportunity to achieve sobriety while being offered a clean, safe place to get back on his feet. During this phase of our housing program he is given the opportunity to learn basic living skills, self discipline, and reliance in a supportive and caring atmosphere.
2) Advanced Living: During this phase of our program the veteran has proven himself ready to take on further responsibility. The vet will begin to handle his own finances and will be offered job training. He will also be encouraged to chose a path of education, school or volunteer work all with the goal of moving forward to independence.
3) Permanent Housing: This phase marks the vet's re-entry into society and this the hardest work of the process. Here the veteran has selected a job and has maintained steady employment. He is taking care of his responsibilites and now lives in an independent situation. He has maintained his sobriety for an extended period of time and has become a mentor to others in the recovery process.
4) Home Ownership and Independence
During all of these phases the veteran is offered supportive case management and mental health counseling.
